Iran imposes new sanctions on persons and entities from the European Union and Britain

On Tuesday, Iran imposed sanctions on individuals and entities in Iran European Union and BritainAnd this was in response to the European sanctions targeted on Monday.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement reported by the official news agency “IRNA” that Tehran “imposes sanctions on the following persons and institutions in the European Union and the British regime,” noting that the targets of these sanctions are 28 individuals and entities in the European Union and 8 Britons.

The statement accused these individuals and entities of “supporting terrorism and terrorist groups, instigating and encouraging terrorist acts and violence against the Iranian people, interfering in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and promoting violence and riots in Iran.”

According to the ministry, the penalties include “prohibiting the issuance of visas and impossibility of entering the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, blocking bank accounts in the financial and banking system, and confiscating property and assets in the territories under the jurisdiction of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

In addition to military entities and institutions, the Iranian sanctions include ministers and parliamentarians in a number of European countries and members of the European Parliament, including the French Minister of State for Equality between Women and Men, Isabelle Romm, the Belgian representative in the European Parliament, Frederic Reis, and the German representatives, Roderich Kiswetter and Renata Alt.

The last package of European sanctions included, in particular, the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Muhammad Mahdi Ismaili, whom Brussels accused of persecuting artists and directors opposed to the government.

The bloc also blacklisted the Minister of Education, Youssef Nuri, for targeting and detaining students on the grounds of their participation in the protests.

On January 25, Iran announced new sanctions against 25 people and entities from the European Union and 9 from the United Kingdom, in response to sanctions imposed by the bloc two days earlier.
