Chinese leader plans visit to Moscow – media

Chinese leader Xi Jinping is preparing to visit Moscow for a summit with the Russian president in the coming months.

As writes “European Truth”reports this The Wall Street Journal with reference to people familiar with the plans.

Beijing says it wants to play a more active role to end the war, and people familiar with Xi’s travel plans say the meeting with Putin will be part of the push for multilateral peace talks and allow China to reiterate its calls not to use nuclear weapons.

Western capitals have expressed skepticism about China’s diplomatic initiative, the broad outlines of which were first announced last week by the country’s chief diplomat, Wang Yi, at the Munich Security Conference.

According to the interlocutors, preparations for the visit are at an early stage, and its dates have not yet been determined. Xi could visit Russia in April or early May, they said, when Russia celebrates its World War II victory over Germany, an event the Kremlin used last year to equate Ukraine’s elected leaders with Nazis.

China’s top diplomat is visiting Moscow on Tuesday to discuss Sino-Russian relations and “international and regional hotspots of common concern,” China’s foreign ministry said. Wang Yi will likely discuss Xi Jinping’s trip during his stay in Moscow, people familiar with the summit’s plans say.
