Sixteen windmills near Zeewolde will no longer operate, owner Vattenfall has decided following an accident last month. On January 4, one of the windmills on the Eemmeerdijk broke down. Immediately afterwards, the other wind turbines in the park were shut down as a precaution for a major check, that was the plan.
Because the turbines were already on the demolition list before the end of this year, Vattenfall has decided not to use the turbines anymore. According to the company, it is a shame to put more effort and energy into the outdated turbines.
“Demolition of the mills is a job that will certainly take several months. If we want to finish it on time, we have to start now. We have therefore decided not to turn on the turbines anymore,” the company says to Broadcasting Flevoland.
Research continues
The turbines may now also be dismantled more quickly. Vattenfall is looking for a company that can start doing this in the short term.
The investigation into the broken mill continues. The results are expected in April.
