Why was it decided to put it right there?
“Vasil Levski was buried here in 1873” reads the inscription on a memorial plaque placed on “Dame Gruev” Street in Sofia, but not on the facade of a building or on a pedestal, but in the middle of a parking space surrounded by white flower pots with flowers and wreaths.
βIt is a temporary memorial and there is nothing wrong with it once it has been authorized by the local authorities. It has been filed for a week and is about open documents. According to authoritative historians, this is the place of the grave”, comments photojournalist Tsvetan Tomchev.
“The plate is not placed according to the rules. There is a special regulation for memorial signs. However, the important question is what Levski means to us and do we need a burial place for Levski in order to honor and respect his work”, commented historian Todor Chobanov.
