The actor Austin Butler gave the surprise and took the Bafta for best actor for his portrayal of Elvis in the biopic of the legendary singer.
“It is something extraordinary. It’s a tremendous honor,” said Butler, who beat out heavy favorites Colin Farrell and Brendan Fraser in this category.
Butler already won the Golden Globe in January in the same category and is up for the Oscar for best actor on March 12.
The film, which traces Elvis’ life through the eyes of his agent, won four Baftas this Sunday, the most important being the one that went to Butler.
