Mini Moon Predicted to Hit Earth between 2075 and 2122

JAKARTA – Phenomenon moon mini, which appeared on July 2, 2022, turned out to have a new story that was quite worrying. The mini moon named 2022 NX1, which was discovered by two astronomers Grzegorz Duszanowicz and Jordi Camarasa, turned out to be not a celestial object that was previously imagined.

When it was first discovered, Grzegorz Duszanowicz and Jordi Camarasa thought that the celestial object was an asteroid or space junk resulting from a satellite or spacecraft that was no longer in use. It’s just that its movement continues to be in the orbit of the moon, many astronomers are confused with 2022 NX1.

Some think the 2022 NX1 is asteroid attracted to Earth’s orbit. There are also those who still think of it as space junk. Some even think of it as a shard of the moon or moon ejecta.

This is what a group of researchers tried to examine using the large telescope Gran Telescopio Canarias in La Palma, Spain. From there they made sure 2022 NX1 didn’t look artificial or part detached from the moon.

In that observation 2022 NX1 is included as a category K asteroid and can be considered a mini moon. In their calculations, 2022 NX1 has actually been seen in Earth orbit.

To be precise during 1980-1981 where 2022 NX1 was visible for 29 days. After July 2, 2022, something similar will likely also happen in 2052.

Now, interestingly, according to the same observation, it is also known that 2022 NX1 will hit Earth by 1.2 percent. It is estimated that the event will occur between 2075 and 2122.

“It’s just that with a width of 5-10 meters, the collision will not cause major damage even though it will still cause an alarming sound of explosions,” wrote the report in Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Although it is indeed small in dimensions, 2022 NX1 is still much larger than the other mini-moons that have been confirmed before. For example, the 2020 CD3 is considered to be 3.5 meters at most. “The discovery of 2022 NX1 confirms that minimoons can be larger than a few meters and also belong to heterogeneous populations in terms of surface composition,” the report authors concluded.
