The epicenter is in Hatay
Two earthquakes shook Turkey’s southernmost Hatay province on Monday, just two weeks after strong tremors hit the region, the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) said.
The first 6.4-magnitude quake struck around 8:04 p.m. local time in Hatay’s Defne district, and the second three minutes later, with an epicenter in Hatay’s Samandag city, with a magnitude of 5.8.
The first earthquake was registered at a depth of 16.7 km, and the second – at 7 km. Both were felt in the surrounding areas, Anatolia Agency reports. Witnesses say they heard the collapse of buildings.

Hatay Mayor Lutfyu Shavash said eight people were injured there in the two tremors. According to CNN Turk, one woman died in the city of Samandag, in the province of Hatay. Four people were buried there.
AFAD issued warnings urging citizens to avoid coastal areas as a precaution against the risk of sea level rise. The earthquake was felt in Cyprus and Syria.
On February 6, earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 7.6 on the Richter scale hit Turkey.
