An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 hit Turkey near the Syrian border in an area hit by super-powerful earthquakes in early February.
This was reported by the Office for the Response to Emergency Situations (AFAD), writes “European Truth” with reference to the agency Anadolu.
The earthquake occurred in the Defne district of the Turkish province of Hatay at 20:04 local time, its magnitude was 6.4 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake was also felt in the surrounding provinces, it occurred at a depth of 16.7 kilometers.
Three minutes later, at 20:07 local time, another earthquake of magnitude 5.8 occurred in the Turkish province of Hatay, with an epicenter in the Samandag region.
Agency eyewitnesses Reuters reported a strong earthquake and subsequent damage to buildings in the center of Antakya, an area that was hit by two powerful earthquakes two weeks ago, causing tens of thousands of deaths and destroying buildings and infrastructure.
Other eyewitnesses said that after the earthquake, Turkish rescue teams ran around the city, checking to see if people were injured.
The confirmed death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey in early February reached 41,020, with the latest figures from Syria over 5,800.
