The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) will carry out a fire drill this Tuesday in the Jaén 1 tunnel, belonging to the Despeñaperros tunnel group, on the N-4A highway, in the province of Jaén.
As reported by the Ministry, during the drill, between approximately 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., the N-4A highway between Venta de Cárdenas (link 243) and the Aldeaquemada junction (link 251) will be closed to traffic. , diverting traffic onto the A-4 motorway. Detours will be duly signposted.
The objective of the fire drill, in accordance with Royal Decree 365/2006, of May 26, on minimum safety requirements in State highway tunnels, is to verify the effectiveness of the action protocols established in the Self-Protection Plan of the Tunnel. In this way, the detection of the incident and the activation of the action protocol by the tunnel maintenance personnel are verified.
In addition, it allows evaluating the coordination of all those involved –emergency services, tunnel managers, civil protection, among others– in a realistic case in which a fire must be extinguished, as well as evacuate tunnel users.
