Jakarta –
This male customer casually peels an available orange on a bar counter restaurant. This fad made him have to pay compensation of IDR 117 thousand.
Restaurants or bars usually like to put raw food ingredients on the table so that they can be seen by customers as well as decoration. However, that does not mean that these materials can be taken at will by customers, because it could be their property.
No wonder there are restaurants that are angry and ask for compensation for the goods in the restaurant. This happened to a male customer who was billed to pay for an orange because he peeled it for fun.
Launching 7news.com.au (15/02), a visitor named Franky Bernstein from the United States is known to be sitting and enjoying his food at a restaurant whose exact name and location are unknown. But who knows what’s on his mind, the man decided to take an orange that he saw on the table.
Casually, Franky Bernstein peeled an orange he took. The bartender in front of him was shocked and scolded him for picking fruit suddenly from this restaurant’s stockpile.
The bartender’s anger was caused because the restaurant was in the middle of a shortage of oranges. Therefore, the restaurant decided to include the picked oranges on the customer’s bill.
In a video uploaded on Franky Bernstein’s TikTok, one can hear the bartender revealing, “Excuse me, those are the citrus fruits we use to make the drink. We are currently short on fruit.” orange. We will have these oranges billed to you.”
Hearing this, Franky Bernstein, who is the CEO of a marketing platform, was initially not bothered. But after the meal bill came out, this male customer began to be surprised. This is because the meal bill stated a nominal value of $A17 (Rp. 177 thousand) for “stolen oranges”.
In disbelief, this man repeatedly asked if this bill was correct.
“Stolen oranges, $A17, are you serious?” he concluded.
While the bartender replied, “Yeah, I’m serious… maybe you can learn from your mistakes.”
Still not receiving the bill for oranges, Franky returned the favor by revealing, “I’ve learned. But you should be grateful because I only took oranges, not bananas.”
It seems that this customer is not only concerned about the price of the oranges, but also the information written on the bill. He was annoyed because the oranges he took were written with the caption “Stolen oranges”.
The video seems to have captured the attention of the public with most of them actually defending this man compared to the restaurant.
One netizen revealed, “Her courage to name it “Orange stolen” on the food bill is insane.”
Another netizen commented, “You shouldn’t leave oranges where customers can pick them up.”
While other netizens also commented, “Everyone reveals, ‘Why do you have to eat that?’ but why should they put it where customers can easily reach? Food served at the bar is usually free.”
“If they do use it for drinks, it should be put behind the bar so it can’t be taken,” concluded another netizen.
But many customers also defended the restaurant by saying, “Everything used in drinks should NOT be taken by customers, even if it’s just fruit.”
Another customer also suggested that customers shouldn’t do this. “You should ask something that isn’t yours first,” said another netizen.
