Slovenian motocross racer Tim Gajser suffered a broken femur shortly before the start of the MXGP season. The 26-year-old Gajser won his fourth world title in the highest class last year in the absence of Jeffrey Herlings.
Gajser was injured in a crash in Italy as he prepared for the start of the season. The Honda driver landed his bike wrong after a jump and suffered a fracture in his right thigh.
Gajser has to undergo surgery and in any case misses the first grands prix. The season kicks off in Argentina on March 12. The Grand Prix of the Netherlands will be held in Arnhem on August 20.
Herlings had to miss last season after surgery on his left foot at the start of the year. The 28-year-old from Brabant and Gajser competed for the world title in the years before.
Herlings, who also had many injuries in his career, was the best in MXGP in 2018 and 2021; the Slovenian in 2016, 2019, 2020 and last year.
