If Thilakan comes in my act, it’s not a minus, but if Mammootty comes, it’s a minus for me- Shobhi Thilakan

Actor Shobhi Thilakan says that he gave up mimicry because of his father. He said that mimicry and dubbing are difficult to combine and it might affect the way we act.

In an interview with Master Bin Channel, the actor opened up about the advice given by his father.

‘Mimicry stopped completely when it came to dubbing. And no imitations. Father is one of the reasons to stop mimicking. It was my father who told me that if I wanted to do something in acting, I should give up mimicry.

Mimicry is imitating someone else. Naturally, the mannerisms of the imitating actors will be carried over while acting. Then you will become not you. My father said that he would remember the way that artist acted in many situations and act.

It is often said that Thilakan Chetan comes into my acting. It is because of the father’s influence on us.

That’s not a minus. But if Mammootty comes in while I am acting, it is a minus for me. Now if you say that I am imitating Mammootty, but I am imitating Balachandra Menon, that is a problem.

If we look at many mime artists who have come to the cinema, we will understand this. Many other actors are seen stepping into many situations.

My father saw it in front of me and said it. So I stopped mimicking that day. Moreover, it is difficult to combine mimicry and dubbing,’ Shobi said.
