La Jornada – Sixth wave of covid, in sharp decline

The Secretary of Health of the capital government, Oliva López Arellano, reported that the sixth wave of covid-19 continues in “clear decline”, with no people hospitalized and with a positivity rate of less than 20 percent in the tests that are carried out, whose demand has been reduced to about 1,200 a day, against about 30,000 a day that were made during the most intense phase of the fifth wave and with a very high positivity.

In the case of the booster vaccine for people over 18 years of age with the formula developed in Cuba, Abdalá pointed out that close to 160,000 doses have been applied, which he considered a significant number if one takes into account that, before it began to be applied, a large part of the population already had a third and fourth reinforcement.

He recalled that also until February 28, the vaccine will continue to be applied to minors between 5 and 11 years of age, in a second dose, with the Pfizer pediatric formula.

He stressed that the fact that people are already carrying out their activities normally reflects that the capital had a successful vaccination model, coordinated by the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, with the participation of health institutions, but above all with a very important participation of the population.

He said that there are 23.8 million doses applied in the city, with a percentage of complete schemes of 94 percent in people aged 12 and over, and with 85 percent of people aged 18 and over with a booster vaccine.

“We are a protected population, which has also learned and has incorporated protection mechanisms,” he added, noting that many people are still using face masks.
