Two students at the University of Greenwich Avery Hill in London set their apartment on fire after trying to copy a tip posted on TikTok.
The young people’s intention was to prepare a grilled cheese by turning the electric toaster on its side. Thus, the cheese would be melted and gratin on the bread, but everything went wrong.
The attempt to make a tastier snack ended up mobilizing more than 20 firefighters to put out the fire. It took members of the brigade 40 minutes to bring the flames under control.
Images published by firefighters who responded to the incident show the damage the fire did to the kitchen. Part of the ceiling fell off, the tiles turned black and the floor was covered with soot and also with water due to the work of the brigade members.
“Just use electronics the right way. Toasters need to be kept clean at all times to prevent fires and are not meant to be used on their sides. This not only generates heat on the surface of the appliance, but crumbs that fall can become hot and catch fire” , said the spokesman for the fire department.
Fortunately, no one was injured, but the brigade warns anyone not to try to use the kitchen equipment in this way, so that there is no risk of the same happening.
