The Amazon Forest Will Turn Into Grasslands, Jaguars Will Be Victims

JAKARTA – A number of land mammals will have great difficulty in the rainforest Amazon turned into a meadow. These animals will find it difficult to adapt because they are very comfortable in the Amazon jungle.

The researchers predict that jaguars and capybaras will fall victim when the Amazon rainforest turns into grasslands. Even animals that are used to living in forests and grasslands such as pumas will also be very vulnerable if such big changes occur.

This was summarized in a study conducted by the University of California Davis recently. Daniel Roca, a researcher from the University of California Davis, said that the transition from the Amazon rainforest to grasslands occurred because of this climate change very drastic.

This makes the temperature in the Amazon rainforest very high. As a result, deforestation increases and rainfall changes. Large-scale grassland conversion is expected in areas south and east of the Amazon rainforest.

“Climate change will affect the persistence and distribution of species, particularly in high-diversity ecosystems like the Amazon,” he explained.

He even said the grasslands that would occur in the Amazon would last a long time. This causes many animals to slowly become victims.

Even though the grasslands will eventually grow under ideal conditions, there are still many animals that prefer to be in the forest rather than living in the grasslands.

“Most of the Amazon species, when they can choose between a good forest and good grassland, they choose the forest. When the forest disappears, they suffer too,” he explained.
