Jakarta

Hugo Samir stole attention in his debut together Indonesian U-20 National Team at a meeting with Fiji, Friday (17/2/2023). Son Jackson F. Tiago play 20 minutes.

In a friendly match titled Mini Tournament at the Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, Hugo Samir, gave color to the U-20 National Team’s attack when he entered in the 70th minute.

His individual action is able to create many opportunities, both for himself and his colleagues. One of them is his penetration into the opponent’s defense, he then releases a left footed shot which the opposing player can still block.

The ball goes out and a corner kick is awarded National team U-20. The corner kick was taken by Hugo Samir who was successfully greeted by Hokky Caraka to bring the U-20 National Team 4-0 ahead of Fiji.

Who Hugo Samir? He is the son of Persebaya Surabaya legend Jackson F. Tiago who was born on January 25, 2005. He recently turned 18 years old.

So far he has not made a senior appearance at club level. He is listed as a Persis Solo player, having previously strengthened Bhayangkara FC, Barito Putera, ASIOP and Persebaya.

Before debuting with the U-20 national team, Hugo was also called by Shin Tae-yong to the selection for the U-18 Indonesian national team in September 2021. At that time he was one of a total of 36 players who will be prepared for the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

After that, his name was not heard again. It was precisely the negative news that emerged, he was one of those involved in the chaos in the Bhayangkara U-18 Vs Persebaya U-18 Elite Pro Academy (EPA) match in November 2021.

It is known that from the sanctions imposed by the PSSI Disciplinary Committee (Komdis), Hugo Samir was sentenced to kick the match officials and a 12-month ban from matches plus a fine of IDR 12 million.

Apart from that, football talent seems to have flowed from his father. Success Jackson F. Tiago pursuing a career as a player seems to be followed in his footsteps by Hugo Samir.

Even though his father is still a Brazilian citizen, Hugo Samir is determined to become an Indonesian citizen (WNI). Understandably, he was born and raised in Indonesia with his mother being a local woman who married Jackson F. Tiago.

Speaking of family background, Hugo Samir chose his mother’s beliefs. He was noted to have made achievements in the call to prayer championship in 2013, as uploaded on social media in 2017.
