The Iran International channel, which opposes the Tehran regime and broadcasts from London, announced that it will leave the British capital and transfer its services 24 hours a day to its studios in Washington, after the British police informed it that the threats by the Iranian regime to the workers in the channel had become so severe that The police can no longer reduce the degree of danger and ensure the safety of employees.
The channel confirmed, in a statement, that it will continue to operate from Washington without interruption in service. And she said in her statement: “After a significant escalation in threats backed by the Iranian state, and advice from the London police, Iran International reluctantly closed its studios in the British capital and moved to Washington, without interruption in broadcasting.”
The statement also quoted the channel’s general director, Mahmoud Enayt, as saying: “I cannot believe that the matter has reached this point. A foreign country (Iran) has made such a huge threat to the British public on British soil, so this is not just a threat to our television station but to the British in general. Rather, more than that, it is an assault on the values of sovereignty, security and freedom of expression, which Britain has always cherished.
He added, “Day and night, our journalists strive to deliver independent, uncensored Iranian news to the 85 million people in Iran and in the diaspora. Therefore, we refuse to be silenced by these cowardly threats, and we will continue broadcasting.
This decision comes after months of threats from the Iranian government and its proxies targeting Iran International. Last November, the Metropolitan Police warned of serious and imminent threats against the lives of the channel’s journalists, which has since led to the channel’s headquarters in west London being fortified and placed under armed police guard.
