The chances of survival decreased around the epicenter in the north, especially in the mountainous areas
Thirteen days after the catastrophic earthquake that struck two weeks ago, southern Turkey and northern Syria, the aftershocks in that region have not stopped.
On Saturday evening, the Euro-Mediterranean Earthquake Observatory reported that a new 5.4-magnitude earthquake occurred northwest of the city of Gaziantep, in southern Turkey.
The observatory said that the earthquake occurred 125 km from the city.
The official Turkish TV (TRT) also stated that another aftershock of 5.1 degrees occurred in the state of Kahramanmaraş, in the south of the country.
And while some aftershocks are still continuing in Turkey since the devastating earthquake occurred, fears are growing of other collapses of already worn-out buildings.
The cracked buildings in the Turkish region of Adi Yaman are threatened with collapse with the succession of these tremors, which exacerbates the situation, and in the reformatory city of Gaziantep, half of the buildings were completely destroyed by the earthquake.
It is noteworthy that the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6 at 4:17 am was considered one of the worst disasters in the region.
Agence France-Presse teams indicated that the chances of survival decreased around the epicenter in the north, in mountainous areas such as Kahramanmaraş, and even the snowy areas in Al-Bustan and Adiyaman, where temperatures dropped to -15 degrees Celsius at night.
It is also expected that the number of victims will rise significantly, given the number of apartments destroyed by the earthquake, which is estimated at 264,000, and with many remaining without sense or news.
