The US plans to allocate $28 million to help prosecute war crimes in Ukraine, the State Department said. Meanwhile, at the Munich Security Conference, US Vice President Kamala Harris said Russia had committed “crimes against humanity” in Ukraine. Such accusations from the US are heard for the first time, notes AFP.
“The United States has officially determined that Russia has committed crimes against humanity,” Ms. Harris said. “We are working with Congress to provide an additional $28 million to support the efforts of the Ukrainian authorities, as well as international and foreign courts, to hold individuals accountable for war crimes,” the State Department said in a statement.
In the West, they are now proposing to create a tribunal for Ukraine independent of the UN, since the current international legislation suggests the possibility of creating such a tribunal only under the auspices of this organization, and Moscow will block such a proposal.
