Adding apps to your Apple Watch is simple, especially since you can use both the Apple Watch App Store and your iPhone to do so.
One of the advantages of having a iPhone is the seamless connection to your iPhone. This means that once you set it up, any apps from your phone that are compatible with your Apple Watch will immediately appear on the device. This ranges from weather apps, banking services, smart home control, and more. This also includes standard Apple apps, like Podcasts and Music, as well as apps for your Apple Watch that are sideloaded (or that you can sideload to it from the Health app), like , heart rate, and workouts. But you can also add more apps to your Watch that you may not have on your phone directly from the Apple Watch App Store itself.

How to add apps to your Apple Watch from the watch
- Press the Digital Crown on the side of the watch (usually in the upper right, but some lefties may prefer it in the lower left).
- Scroll down to the App Store and select it.
- You will see a welcome message when you access it for the first time. Read, scroll down, and tap Continue.
- You’ll see a menu called Apple Watch Starter Kit with recommended apps for download. Choose from this list or enter the app you’re looking for in the search bar.
- You can also scroll down and through the options for other featured and popular apps. Some apps are free while others come with a price, which will be charged to your Apple account.
- Once you have selected the app you want, you can click on Get or Buy..
- Double tap the side button to install the app.
- You’ll see the processing, and the download will continue or you’ll be asked to enter your Apple ID password to authorize the transaction (even if the app is free because most have in-app purchase options).
- Enter the password using the small keyboard and tap Done.
- You will see the application loaded. Once done, it can be accessed from the watch list, or you can open it immediately by selecting Open.
How to add apps to your Apple Watch from your iPhone
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Select the My Watch tab from the bottom menu.
- Scroll down through the list of apps on your phone.
- Select the app that you want to add to your Apple Watch.
- Click Install.
- Double-click the side button to install with Face ID (or enter your Apple ID password when prompted).
- The app will now appear on your Apple Watch.
Remember that not all of the apps you use on your phone will be compatible with your Apple Watch, including the top apps. However, purchased apps will work on your Apple Watch without having to pay for them again (unless you download a separate version from the Apple Watch App Store.)
Downloading apps to your Apple Watch from your iPhone only works with apps on the phone itself, too. If you want an app specifically for the Apple Watch, you need to download it from the Watch using the first set of steps.
Once you’ve loaded your Apple Watch with your favorite apps, you can find the perfect look for you.
