In his speech at the Munich Security Conference US Vice President Kamala Harris condemned Russia’s actions in Ukrainereports the BBC Russian service.
“Russian forces are carrying out large-scale and systematic attacks against the civilian population of Ukraine” said the US vice president, pointing to evidence of executions, rape, torture and forced deportations, including of children.
She pointed to atrocities during the war in Ukraine, including the events in Bucha and the bombing of the theater in Mariupol.
“We have looked at the evidence. We know the legal standards. And there is no question that these are crimes against humanity,” she said.
According to her, this means that Russia has committed not only war crimes, as the US administration officially concluded in March, but also illegal actions against civilians.
“Their actions are an attack on our shared values, an attack on our shared humanity,” the vice president said.
“The United States has officially determined that Russia has committed crimes against humanity“, she said.
The Biden administration will continue to help Ukraine investigate the alleged crimes.
“I say to all those who committed these crimes and their leadership involved in these crimes, You will be held accountablesaid Kamala Harris.
At the end of his speech at the Munich conference, US Vice President Kamala Harris noted that the Russian president would not be able to win.
“If Putin thinks he can get the upper hand by waiting out the situation, he is very wrong,” she said. “Time is not on his side.”
Harris concluded his speech by affirming that The US will continue to strongly support Ukraine and noted that Washington is proud to partner with Kiev.
“We will help Ukraine as much as we need,” she added.
