Ghanaian player’s body found under rubble in Turkey: agent | World

Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu was found dead under the rubble of his apartment building in southern Turkey after a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated parts of the country and Syria, the former Chelsea striker’s agent said. England, who had been playing for the Turkish team Hatayaspor.

“Atsu’s body was found under the rubble,” Murat Uzunmehmet told reporters in Hatay. “More items from him are still being taken. His phone was also found,” added the player’s agent.

Atsu had been scheduled to leave southern Turkey hours before the earthquake, but Hatayspor manager Volkan Demirel said the Ghanaian opted to stay with the club after scoring the winning goal in a Super League match on 5 February.

In addition to the player, who was 31 years old, the club is also looking for news of its sporting director, Taner Savut, who is missing.
