FC Barcelona is in the midst of controversy in Spain, this after the payment of 1.4 million euros from the Catalan squad to DASNIL 95 SL, a company belonging to José María Enríquez Negreira, the vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees between 1994 and 2018.

The situation is already in the hands of the Spanish prosecutor’s office and there are several who expect exemplary punishments for the culé team, since they would be playing dangerously with a corruption case around arbitrations.

However, that will not happen. Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, ruled out any sporting punishment for the Blaugrana team for this case, arguing that these accusations prescribe after three years.

“From La Liga we are going to respect the investigation that the Prosecutor’s Office is going to do and, if it decides to file the appropriate complaint, we will have to appear as a private prosecution,” Tebas said.

In this sense, the number in charge of the First Division of Spain maintained that “it is not possible that they exist since between 2018 and 2023 five years have passed and this type of sanctions prescribes after three years.”

“Now the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the events that occurred and, if there may be a possible crime of corruption between individuals in the version of rigging and in the sports field. Let’s see how that investigation ends up,” he added.

However, and finally, he made a call to the other Spanish clubs by declaring that “what is a conclusion, that both aesthetically and ethically these things cannot happen in Spanish football.”

This case exploded just as Barcelona marched as a solid leader in La Liga and was close to winning the Spanish title again after three dry seasons.
