In addition to conventional drives and, in the case of the 3008, a plug-in hybrid, so-called full-hybrid variants have also been added to the range of Peugeot crossovers, models 3008 and 5008. The 5008 was until now the last Peugeot without an electrified powertrain, now that changes.
The inclusion in the full-hybrid class is despite the fact that the electrical system works with a voltage of 48 volts. The cars are also capable of driving on electricity, but similar to the e-Boxers from Subaru, only for distances of up to 1 km and at low speed.
However, the automaker claims that in the city the car drives with the internal combustion engine off more than half of the time. It also always starts and maneuvers on electricity. The internal combustion engine can be disconnected up to a driving speed of 145 km/h. The resulting fuel savings should be fifteen percent, in the city the standard value of consumption drops by 2.5 liters per 100 km.

The basis of the system is a 1.2-liter in-line three-cylinder PureTech in a new generation with a variable geometry of the turbocharger blades. The engine produces 136 hp and 230 Nm and runs on the Miller cycle. This is similar to the Atkinson cycle in that, unlike the classic Otto cycle, the intake valve remains open for part of the compression phase, and thus the expansion ratio is greater than the compression ratio. However, it adds supercharging to the equation.
An electric motor with 28 horsepower and 55 newton meters is connected to the internal combustion engine. The battery from which it draws energy has a usable capacity of 0.4 kilowatt hours and is located under the driver’s seat. In parallel, the classic 12V electrical system remains, but the alternator is missing, the function of which is performed by the 48V electric motor. Electricity is then converted to 12 volts.
The engines work together with a newly developed transmission called e-DCS6, which has six stages and dual-clutch technology. According to the automaker, it enables gear changes without interrupting torque delivery and was designed specifically for hybrid systems. The 48V electric motor found a place right inside her.
The 3008 and 5008 hybrids are expected to hit the market in the second quarter of this year at undisclosed prices.
