Mohamed VI orders the donation of 2,000 tons of fertilizers to Gabon

King Mohamed VI of Morocco met this Wednesday in the Gabonese capital, Libreville, with President Ali Bongo Ondimba, and ordered the delivery of 2,000 tons of fertilizers to Gabonese farmers.

According to a note from the Moroccan news agency MAP, this solidarity action falls within the framework of “Morocco’s attention to Gabonese farmers in the current context marked by the world food crisis and difficulties in supplying fertilizers.”

“After this operation, a structural action will be carried out to allow the farmers of the sister country their access to quality fertilizers, at affordable prices and that are specifically adapted to the needs of the land and crops of the region,” read the statement. the note.

According to the MAP, meetings were also held between the Moroccan Foreign Minister, Naser Burita, and the Gabonese delegate minister in charge of Foreign Affairs after the meeting between the Moroccan king and the Gabonese president, Yolande Nyonda, and the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic. , Jean-Yves Teale.

Gabon is one of Morocco’s main allies in sub-Saharan Africa, and the current heads of state are childhood friends, as were their parents and predecessors at the head of both countries, Hassan II and Omar Bongo.

Morocco is among the world’s leading producers of fertilizers. Last October, the Moroccan state company Sherifiana Office of Phosphates (OCP) announced that it will allocate more than 4 million tons of fertilizers to farmers in Africa in 2023 to “reinforce food security” on the continent.
