Egyptian Foreign Ministry: The release of the 6 detained in Libya

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on Friday evening, the release of the six Egyptians who were being held in Libya.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a brief statement on its Twitter account this evening: “According to information received from our embassy in Tripoli, the six Egyptians detained in Libya have been released, thank God.”

And she went on to say, “We are following the safe return of the people of Egypt to the homeland, God willing,” without giving the statement any further details.

Earlier today, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed that it is following with great interest, around the clock, the position of the six Egyptians who were detained in an illegal immigration center in western Libya, which is not subject to the Libyan authorities.

The Foreign Ministry said, in a statement received by the German News Agency (DPA), that the Egyptian embassy in Tripoli had contacted the concerned Libyan authorities to intervene in order to release the citizens.

It should be noted that the six citizens had left the country with travel permits that stipulated their presence in the Libyan east only, without going beyond it to other regions, which the citizens pledged to abide by.

It is noteworthy that a number of the aforementioned citizens were present in Libya in 2021, and were exposed to risks that required the intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the time with the Libyan authorities to facilitate their deportation and return them safely to the homeland.
