He died just days before his children’s birthdays

Tim Lobinger died at the age of 50. The ex-pole vaulter leaves behind three children. Two of them will celebrate their birthdays in a few days. It will be the first without her father.

He battled cancer for six years. But now the athlete had to admit defeat. The former pole vaulter died on Thursday at the age of 50, his family announced.

“The former pole vault legend fell asleep peacefully in a small circle, he didn’t lose the fight, he won it in his own way,” says the statement, which is available, among other things, to RTL.

He was a father of three

Tim Lobinger leaves behind three children: 28-year-old Fee, Lex Tyger, five years his junior, and the newcomer of the family, seven-year-old Okkert. Two of them celebrate their birthdays in just a few days. On February 22, Tyger will be 24 and his sister will be 29 six days later. It will be the first birthday without her father – and so shortly after his death.

Tim Lobinger used to congratulate his children over and over again on Instagram. For example, in 2020 he wrote about a series of pictures showing his firstborn in different phases of life: “The greatest daughter of all time”.

He has also dedicated a birthday post to his two sons in recent years. “Happy Birthday Tyger,” he wrote to his older son, posting several snaps.

Little Okkert was born in October 2015. When he had his birthday in 2019, Tim Lobinger shared a photo together, commenting on it with the words: “Four years! Happy Birthday! And I can experience it …!” Okkert is now seven years old.

Such Instagram posts will no longer exist. Tim Lobinger has succumbed to cancer. He has repeatedly spoken openly about his illness in recent years. At the beginning of 2017, the ex-athlete received the devastating diagnosis of leukemia. The cancer initially seemed to be defeated by stem cell therapy, but the disease returned.

Lobinger made this public at the beginning of last year – and at the same time was optimistic and combative to defeat the terrible disease again. In the fall of 2022, the athlete himself reported the shocking news to the public: “There will be no more healing for me.” Just four months later, Tim Lobinger is dead.
