Direct speech: “Ukraine is a friend of Israel, and the further activities of the embassy and the staff who work here in difficult conditions will strengthen relations between the countries.”

Details: Cohen is on an official visit to Ukraine. This is the first visit by an Israeli official to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion.

At a meeting with the President of Ukraine, he assured that Israel would provide Ukraine with an air threat warning system for civilians in 3-6 months.

He also said that Israel would help in the restoration of Ukraine and support the “peace formula” of President Zelensky.

What preceded this:

  • Cohen said that Israel intends to support the peace formula proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
  • Cohen arrived in Kyiv on Thursday, the first visit by a senior Israeli official to Ukraine since the start of a full-scale Russian invasion.
  • In early February, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a meeting with the French President, said that he was ready to send “military items” to Ukraine, but was not ready to go too far so as not to provoke Russia.
  • President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in his speech on October 11, 2022 at an urgent meeting of the G7, proposed “peace formula– measures that, in his opinion, will deprive Putin of the chances of achieving goals in Ukraine.
