This was stated by US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland at an online briefing for journalists, RBC-Ukraine correspondent reports.
“The President (Biden – ed.) said that we will support Ukraine for as long as necessary. Ukraine is fighting for the return of all its territory within its international borders. We support them, including in preparing their next push to regain territory. If Russia stops fighting, this war could end tomorrow. If Ukraine stopped fighting, Ukraine would end. So it’s up to Ukrainians to decide how to fight this war. It’s up to Ukrainians to decide how they can look for other ways to peace, including diplomacy. ” she replied.
Nuland also added that Russian President Vladimir Putin is still arrogant enough to believe that he can defeat Ukraine, so he will continue the war further.
“More than 200,000 Russians were killed or wounded in combat during the year. They lost more than half of their military equipment in some categories in this war, and more than a million of the smartest and best Russians left the country. So what does this war bring to the average Russian? Nothing. Death, destruction, loss of the future, loss of technological and economic potential that would result from integration with us, so it’s more interesting if the Russian people will support this,” Nuland said.
