Will Smith will return in I am legend 2 thanks to the alternate ending of the original tape

I am legend dazzled the public back in 2007 with the vision of a world where man has practically disappeared. Will Smith starred in this rather loose adaptation of the novel by Richard MathesonBut, in the theatrically released ending, he sacrificed himself to get Anna and Ethan to escape.

That ending was not very popular and, when the DVD was released, an alternative ending was obtained in which Robert NevilleWill Smith’s character, survived after “negotiating” with the Shadow Seekers.

That final alternative will be, curiously, the one that will be canon for the sequel to I am legend, something that we all assumed for a long time, but that has been confirmed by the producer Akiva Goldsman recently.

Will Smith will co-star in the new film alongside another star of the moment, Michael B. Jordanwhich opens Creed III in a few weeks around the world.

In a chat with DeadlineAkiva Goldsman talks about how excited he is about The Last of Us, a series that bears many similarities to the setting of I Am Legend and Richard Matheson’s vision of a world without humans.

“We go back to Matheson’s original book and alternate ending instead of the ending published in the original movie. Matheson spoke of the fact that man’s time as the dominant species on the planet had come to an end. That’s something really interesting that we’re going to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text“.

The fact that this alternate ending of the movie whatever will allow the presence of Will Smith as Robert Neville in the sequel to I am legend.

For the moment, I am legend 2 progresses slowly, but with good lyrics. We will be attentive to the news that arises around the project.
