Lithuania has stopped cooperation on the passage of transport with Belarus

The State Border Guard Service of Lithuania notified the Border Committee of Belarus about the termination of the uninterrupted flow of transport across the border of the countries. About it reported in the press service of the Belarusian department.

“The State Border Protection Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania unilaterally terminates cooperation with the customs and border services of the Republic of Belarus to ensure an uninterrupted flow of transport across the border and increase the capacity of road checkpoints,” the message says.

The Lithuanian security service did not indicate the reasons for this decision. The agreement between the countries has been in force since November 4, 2019.

February 15 representatives of Lithuanian customs sent notification to the Belarusian side of the termination of the movement of freight rail transport through the Stasilos checkpoint. According to the press service of the Belarusian border committee, the resumption of the movement of goods is planned after the installation of the X-ray control system.

On February 9, the Polish authorities announced the closure of the border crossing with Belarus in Bobrovniki. Then the Minister of the Interior Mariusz Kaminski said that the authorities had taken into account the important interests of state security and decided to suspend traffic across the border until further notice.
