Asaja Castilla-La Mancha has rejected the new approach to the almond insurance design presented by Agroseguro on the grounds that it seriously harms producers, who come to describe the sector as a setback.
After transferring its position last week before the Territorial Commission of Agrarian Insurance of Castilla-La Mancha, ASAJA will present its proposals this Thursday the 16th during the national Working Group that is scheduled to be held with the participation of the Department of agriculture, Enes y Agroseguro.
According to the analysis of the situation of the sector and the risk of Agroseguro, the current almond insurance “is unaffordable”, for which reason it presented a new design that basically consists of modifying the allocation of returns and the level of risk.
This review, according to ASAJA CLM, would mean a new setback for the almond sector. For this reason, he has asked that the reality of the sector be studied in detail and that the proposal be reconsidered so that the almond tree is considered exceptionally, in the same way that it happened with the insurance of fruit trees after the frosts of last year.
For this, the agricultural organization has requested a more detailed analysis of the situation and the results, specifying the varieties and differentiating between traditional or intensive plantations and between rainfed and irrigated land, among other parameters.
Likewise, it has been recalled that the yields assigned to the exploitation must be adjusted to the productive reality of the same and, in the event that it does not occur, there are the necessary tools to be able to review it during the validity of the insurance declaration, as established Nut insurance regulations.
Lastly, ASAJA CLM has requested greater support from the national government, in such a way that the cost of agricultural insurance is affordable so that the farmer does not hesitate to contract at such a critical moment as the one he is going through.
The objective of the insurance system, he recalled, is to contribute to the stability of the income of agricultural exploitations through its protection against climatic adversities and other natural risks, for which a clear and determined commitment is needed from the Administrations, has concluded.
