Thailand’s Zico Scholarship Foundation, which supported Promthep, who was studying soccer in England, announced that a school teacher found him collapsed in a dormitory on the 12th and took him to the hospital, but died.

Brookhouse College in Leicester, England, where Promthep attended, also confirmed his death.

Promthep was hospitalized and treated until the 14th, but died at the end, the Guardian reported.

The exact cause of death has yet to be ascertained, but Leicestershire Police said there was no evidence of a homicide. There were also reports in Thailand that Promthep suffered a head injury, according to the British BBC.

Promthep is the captain of a youth football team, Mu Pa (wild boars), who was trapped in a cave in Thailand in 2018 and miraculously returned to life after 17 days.

At that time, 12 players including Promthep and 13 players, including the coach, went into a cave in Chiang Rai and were isolated as the water level in the cave rose due to sudden rain.

More than 100 divers, including multinational rescue experts and Thai Navy SEAL rescuers, rescued all 13 people after painstaking efforts, and this more dramatic incident received worldwide attention.

Promthep, the captain, did not lose his composure, smiling even when he was trapped inside the cave. His bright smile, caught on the diver’s camera, was one of the most impressive scenes of the rescue process, the BBC reported.

Promthep left for England at the end of last year to pursue his dream of becoming a national soccer player.

Before leaving for England, he wrote on social media (SNS): “My dream has come true. I am now a student at an English football school.”

The Zico Foundation said, “Promthep loved playing football in England. He was very quick, smart and looked full of happiness.”
