Jakarta –
Whether because of tiredness or just for fun, a peregrine falcon hitched a ride on a goose. This hilarious action was successfully captured by wildlife photographer, John Ovenden.
John revealed that this rare moment occurred on an island in the English Channel. A peregrine falcon suddenly lands on a swan.
He rode on it for a few seconds before jumping off and flying away. Even though it was short, the moment was memorable for the photographer.
“I was amazed to see such a view,” John told PetaPixel. “I am very happy to be able to capture such a special moment.”
John used his Canon R5 with a 300mm L lens to capture the ‘goose surf’ moment.
“We saw an eagle chasing some small birds and then suddenly flying up behind this goose, slowing down a bit, and then riding it for a few seconds,” he said.
“It then came up beside the goose and looked at it. It was very strange – very unusual animal behavior and I doubt I will ever see anything like it again.”
John says that peregrine falcons don’t attack geese. “Swans are big birds and know how to protect themselves,” he said.
“And the swan was not disturbed by it at all, it flew on.”
