This is why Ashwin is the best bowling all-rounder the world has ever seen

Muhammad Ali Shihab

As Ravi Ashwin completed 450 wickets in Tests, out of curiosity I checked the batting stats of those who took 450+ wickets in Tests.

  • All 9 players who have taken 450+ wickets have 7 centuries in Test cricket, five of them by Ravi Ashwin – the other two being Anil Kumble and Stuart Broad.
  • Ashwin is also the only batsman with a batting average of 20+, followed by Stuart Broad with an average of 18.39.
  • Ashwin is the only player to maintain a positive average difference (Batting – Bowling), followed by Shane Warne with an average difference of -8.08.
  • Ashwin also has the most fifty+ scores, scoring 50+ 18 times in 89 matches.

Among these nine names, only Glenn McGraw and Muttiah Muralidharan are above him in bowling average and we can understand how strong a bowler he is.

Undoubtedly, Ravichandran Ashwin is the best bowling all-rounder the world has ever seen in terms of those who have had a long career in Test cricket.
