Artist and producer, Pharell Williams (49) becomes a designer for Louis Vuitton after designer Virgil Abloh.
It writes The Wall Street Journal.
Abloh was the first black American to be appointed head designer of a European luxury fashion house. In November 2021, he died and it is Williams who will fill the renowned designer’s shoes.
Louis Vuitton has been without a permanent creative or artistic director throughout 2022. That is changing now that the artist behind the monster hit “Happy” is taking over the design job.
The luxury fashion house instead presented a series of tributes to Abloh and collections designed by the remaining menswear design team.
Williams himself has established himself as an entrepreneur in luxury streetwear, and was among other things involved in founding the Billionaire Boys Club.
It suggests that Louis Vuitton is continuing to think in the direction of streetwear aesthetics and star power when it comes to running its men’s business after Abloh’s death.
Williams has a long career in music, as a producer, rapper, singer and songwriter. He is also one half of the production company The Neptunes.
Among other things, he has produced songs for Britney Spears, Jay Z and *NSYNC.
