Manila: ‘Single’ mayor’s Valentine’s Day gift for ‘single’ employees. Philippine Quezon Provincial Mayor Matt Florida is giving three times the daily wages to the employees of the General Luna Town Hall who came to work on Tuesday, Valentine’s Day. The purpose is to convince these ‘loners’ that there is someone to remember and love.
Only those who have lived alone for the past five years will get the prize. There is a detailed test to confirm this. Out of 289 employees, 37 people are eligible for special wages this time. The oldest is 64 years old.
The money for this is spent by the mayor from his own pocket. This is the third year in a row that Florida has awarded this prize. It’s not just a gift, it’s also a thank you for the overtime work done by the ‘odds’.
“I know the mood they’re going through today.
There is no one to give them chocolates or flowers. We pay this wage to let them know that there is someone to love and consider them,” said the 42-year-old mayor, who claims to have been single since birth.
