Shorouq Hisham Geneina, the daughter of Counselor Hisham Geneina, the former head of the Central Auditing Organization, announced that her father had been released from prison.
Shurooq published on her official page on the social networking site Facebook, “Papa is finally out,” along with a picture of her father in front of their house.
Genena completed the sentence imposed on him in the case known in the media as insulting state institutions and broadcasting false news.
In March 2019; The Military Court of Appeals in Egypt upheld the imprisonment of Hisham Genena, the former head of the Central Auditing Organization, for five years in the case of “offensive statements.” In April 2018, a military misdemeanor court had previously sentenced Geneina to five years in prison for “broadcasting offensive and incorrect news.”
Lawyer Tariq Al-Awadi, a member of the Presidential Pardon Committee, commented on Genena’s “Alf Mabrouk” exit and posted a picture of the former head of the Central Auditing Organization in front of his house.
In 2017, the New Cairo Court sentenced Hisham Genena to one year in prison on charges of spreading false news, with a suspended sentence of 3 years and a fine of 20,000 pounds.
Two years later, the New Cairo Misdemeanor Court decided to accept the appeal of “Genina” in the case of statements offensive to the state, in form, and rejected it in substance, and upheld the previous sentence of imprisonment for one year and a fine of 20,000 pounds, and suspended execution for 3 years.
