Shadows of the dark side have taken over the streets of New York… or rather its runways. We do not know if influenced by the Burton effect and its 21st century version Wednesday, or simply as an extension of a trend that already made its first steps, more timidly, the previous season, the fact is that the designers of New York Fashion Week coincide: in winter 2023 the total black will prevail. And well thought of, this fashion for black to occupy everything could be a respite for those for whom investing time in color combinations is not one of his favorite hobbies. So far good. However, the eternal black, that ally that never fails, will arrive in a more gothic versionwith certain punk touches, in the form of silhouettes ranging from the nineteenth-century to the most risky and skin-tight.
Unlike the Parisian catwalk, in which there is little space left for new additions, the one in NY it is more flexible and, therefore, more open to diversity when it comes to understanding fashion. Thus, together with internationally known firms such as roll youwhich has directly plunged into the universe of Vampirella (in moderate version) to create their winter proposal, we see other less known in Europe that have also coincided in building their proposals around black. It is the case of Dion Lee, Heron Preston, Puppets o Velez.
On her catwalks we see silhouettes that run through the body, pronounced necklines, sleeves with XL volume, infinitely long skirts and dresses, ruffs on the neck, fishnets, leather jackets, lace pants and lots and lots of transparent fabric. Will Milan and Paris follow this trend?
