Mobile phone switched off, then a storm and thoughts about April Fools’ Day. Trpišovský refuted the speculation about the flight to Southampton

“Fortunately, my phone was off in the morning, I was dealing with some dental problems. The whirlwind when I turned on the phone was really big. They even called people from our club to see if I really flew away. I was looking to see if it was April Fool’s Day, I didn’t know anything about anything,” smiled Trpišovský in the Premier Club program.

What was it really about? On Monday morning, former journalist Filip Horký shared on Twitter the information that there is a direct private flight from Prague to Southampton. Considering that Southampton football team, the last Premier League team, is currently without a coach, speculations have been rife that Trpišovský may be on board, flying for his first foreign engagement.

The speculations were denied within a few hours by Slavia boss Jaroslav Tvrdík and the coach’s agent Jiří Müller. “If there was any truth to it, I would have a lot of worries and probably wouldn’t be sitting here,” emphasized Trpišovský on Monday evening.

On the other hand, the fact remains that Southampton have indeed been without a head coach since Sunday. Nathan Jones lasted only 94 days on the bench, lost seven times in eight games and needs to pack up.

His successor has not yet been introduced, but whoever it is, he will have a lot of work to do. Southampton loses four points on the non-relegation rungs, but the team is especially prone to individual mistakes, such as in the last meeting at home with Wolves.

According to Trpišovský, being fired is the worst thing that can happen in the professional life of a football coach. “No one wants to leave the club, sometimes the impossible is wanted from coaches. There are of course more reasons why the club is somewhere. Suddenly, you want the coach to solve everything, and the question is whether it’s even possible,” he sympathized with Jones.

“It’s incomprehensible to me that you hire a coach and he’s gone in three months,” he shook his head. But he doesn’t have to deal with similar problems himself at the moment.
