The Metropolitan Climate Council is dead. Long live the local High Council for Climate and Biodiversity? Installed this Monday at Nice, this new commission modeled on the National High Council initiated by Emmanuel Macron and created to “guide the strategic decisions” of the community, will it do better than its predecessor? Launched in 2019, the structure was finally dissolved in December 2022, “having never produced concrete results”, denounced the Citoyen06 collective.

The new tool, which calls on “seventeen independent experts and scientists”, according to the community, would be “better able to respond to the major challenges of the territorial acceleration of the ecological transition”. It should work hand in hand with a “development council” already created with socio-economic and institutional actors, and a “citizen’s convention” bringing together 100 inhabitants.
