The Sukabumi City Health Office appealed to the public to be vigilant about DHF

The Sukabumi City Health Office appealed to the public to be vigilant about the spread of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) because there has been an increase in the number of cases due to the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito since early 2023.

“From early January to February there have been 43 cases of dengue fever, one of which has died,” said Head of Disease Control and Eradication (P2P) of the Sukabumi City Health Office, Wita Darmawanti, in Sukabumi, West Java, Monday.

According to Wita, one case of death due to dengue was a child living in the Warudoyong District area. “One of the reasons for the increase in dengue cases since the beginning of the year is the weather,” he said.

Since the turn of the year, it has rained almost every day in the City of Sukabumi so that there are many standing waters around community settlements which are breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the carrier of dengue fever.

Therefore, to prevent more and more residents from contracting dengue fever, he invites the public to increase awareness through the 1 house 1 larva monitoring movement (jumantik) or G1R1J.

Then always apply Clean and Healthy Behavior (PHBS). Then carry out actions to eradicate mosquito nests through 3M, namely draining water reservoirs, tightly closing all water reservoirs so that mosquitoes cannot enter.

Furthermore, hoarding or recycling used waste that is no longer used so that it does not become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

In addition, to prevent the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, residents can apply mosquito repellent liquid on several parts of the body when doing activities inside and outside the home or when going to sleep.

The public is also asked to be able to understand someone who is experiencing common symptoms of dengue fever such as experiencing headaches, fever, pain in muscles, bones or joints and nausea.

In addition to vomiting, pain behind the eyes, swollen glands and rashes and red spots appear on the skin.

If there are people or families who experience symptoms like that, they should immediately take them to the health center or hospital so that they can be treated immediately. “Because of the occurrence of death in DHF patients due to delays in getting medical treatment,” he said.

Wita said that for prevention what he was doing was activating DHF management operational groups at various levels starting from RT, RW, kelurahan, sub-district to cities. Then spread PSN officers and do fumigation or “fogging”.

In the last three years, starting from 2020 to 2022, DHF cases in Sukabumi City have continued to increase. In 2020 there were 651 cases, 2021 recorded 427 cases and 2022 there were 1,028 cases, 13 of whom died.
