Evert Winkelmans got cancer a few years ago. He was declared cured four years ago. In 2022 he and his wife bought a house, but due to his medical history it is not easy to get affordable debt balance insurance. He has to fill in lengthy questionnaires and it takes a very long time to get clarity.
Eventually Evert gets an answer from the insurer, unfortunately not the answer he hopes for. “My premium proposal was far too expensive, I could never afford that,” he says in “The Inspector” on Radio2. He has to pay an extra risk premium of 450 percent on top of the normal premium. That concerns large amounts.
