5.2 earthquake in Vrancha, Northern Bulgaria bounces

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale shook the Romanian seismic district of Vranca. This is reported by the European Seismological Center.

The tremor was also felt in Northern Bulgaria, especially in the cities along the Danube.

The earthquake was recorded at 4:58 p.m., and the depth of the quake was 15 kilometers.

On the website of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, many people from Romania, Serbia and Bulgaria write how they felt the earthquake. There are posts by Bulgarians from Vratsa, Vidin, Lom, Kozloduy, who describe the earthquake as mild to moderate. Its duration was between 5 and 10 seconds.

In Bulgaria, there is still the fear of the Vranca earthquakes, born in 1977, when on March 4, an earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale shook the earthquake zone. The tremor was felt throughout Bulgaria and caused damage, especially in the settlements along the Danube River.

The city of Svishtov was the most affected, where many industrial and 355 residential buildings were destroyed, and 463 were badly damaged. 5 schools were demolished and 50 were badly damaged.

After the earthquake in Bulgaria, volunteers were recruited from all over the country – students, young people, specialists, who, together with the forces of the then “Civil Defense” and the military, were involved in the search for survivors and victims, as well as in the clearing of the remains.

Under the rubble in Svishtov, more than 130 people died, more than 140 were injured. Many of those buried had a real chance to be pulled out alive, but died from their injuries and lack of air.
