The US Embassy in Russia has urged Americans to leave the country immediately.
A warning has been published on the website of the diplomatic mission that US citizens should refrain from traveling to Russia because “unforeseen consequences” from the conflict in Ukraine, and American citizens living in the country or traveling through the Russian Federation must leave immediately because “retention risk”.
The embassy notes that the Russian side can “deny US citizens recognition of dual citizenship, deny them access to consular assistance, mobilize them, prevent them from leaving the country and/or call them up for military service.”
