Death of tribal youth in Kozhikode Medical College; Rahul Gandhi visits family members

Kalpatta: Rahul Gandhi visited the home of a tribal youth who committed suicide after being accused of theft. Rahul Gandhi visited the tribal youth’s home on his first visit to Kerala after the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Vishwanath, a native of Meppadi, Wayanad, was found hanging dead in the premises of Kozhikode Medical College. But Vishwanath’s family came forward alleging that it was not suicide but murder. She repeated the same thing to Rahul Gandhi.

‘After eight years, Viswanathan gave birth to a child. He will not commit suicide at such a time. Viswanathan did not flee to a place where death was serious. Viswanathan’s brother Raghavan may be behind Viswanathan’s death, either the people, the hospital security or the police.

Viswanathan had come to the medical college as an attendant for his wife’s delivery. Some came to allege that Viswanathan, who was sitting outside the ward, had committed theft. According to reports, Viswanathan was interrogated and beaten up by everyone present in the premises.

The initial observation of the police is that Viswanathan committed suicide because he was upset over being accused of theft. But the family alleged that the police were not ready to investigate Viswanathan’s disappearance two days ago.

Viswanathan was found hanging from a 15 meter high tree near the hospital on Friday. The Human Rights Commission has sought a report on the incident
