“The soporific has become the insignia of high art, but the rest of us must captivate, that’s why Agatha Christie is the novelist who sells the most, and almost no one ends the endless joke“. Referring to the elitist novel written by David Foster Wallacethe affirmation of Nadia Farrancharacter played by Amy-Leigh Hickmansummarizes the spectacular change of You in its fourth season, at least from this first part that comes to us from the hand of Netflix.
Below I will leave a micro review about the first episodes of the fourth season of You SIN SPOILERSso, read calmly.
🙂
Let’s face it: the series was becoming very repetitive and even perhaps too elevated in terms of the before speech Joe Goldberg and now Professor Jonathan Mooreperformed by our beloved Penn Badgley.
The choice of the change of location is also a successbecause what better city to narrate a semi-detective story than London? None, of course: from its alleys to its supposed warmth but real building coldness, the capital of England means a lot to the genre. The great exponents of classic police literature always considered it as the perfect city for enigmas, and the producers took note of it, and in a very good way.
At the same time, the location issue also broadens the spectrum in terms of social; the aristocracy of USA that of the United Kingdom: on the one hand we have a high society made of work, effort and meritocracy, wild in every sense and that constantly fluctuates in terms of its position in the rankings of fortune; on the other hand we have an elite made up of surnames, traditions and heredity, very refined even in its poignant humor and which knows that it will never become extinct. The latter, that of LondonIt is a much more closed high society, so the mystery fits perfectly.
On the other hand, and in relation to the above, the characters are much less exaggerated. As if they had to represent that solidity and even English coldness, each of the roles is not exaggerated: they all form a perfect communion and at no time, at least for me, do you feel that any of them is overactingsomething that began to be noticed in the series from the middle of the second season.
Although the last episode of these four that make up the first part of this fourth season leaves a bitter taste as the mystery is cleared up and we will have to wait for the premiere of the second part, scheduled for March 9 of this 2023, I stand and applaud You: As is generally said, he who does not risk does not win, and the producers knew how to interest us again with a very, very addictive story.
It’s worth it.
