An East Village subject was arrested due to several shopliftings in Greenwich Village Diane Reade lost her life in police custodythe authorities declared.
Identified as Travis Durkin47 years old, was being accused of stealing $455 worth of goods from a West Fourth Street pharmacy in the vicinity of Broadway on January 15 and $1,238 worth of goods on January 16the police reported.
When the offender returned to Duane Reade on January 18, he allegedly attempted to steal $40 worth of other items, but this time officers arrested him.
Durkin was charged with two counts of criminal possession of stolen property, two counts of grand theft and one count of petty theft for the three felonies.the officials stated.
After his arrest on January 18, the criminal was found unconscious in a holding cell and was transferred to Manhattan Central Booking where he awaited arraignment, reported New York Post.
The subject was pronounced dead Thursday, the New York Police Department announced.
“He died weeks after being admitted to the hospital,” an NYPD spokeswoman confirmed Saturday.
The incident is being investigated by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.
Durkin has reportedly been arrested more than 40 times since 1998 on charges including drug possession, drug sales and larceny, a source said.
