Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russia issued an unusual statement. The country urged the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) alliance to hold an emergency meeting.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said NATO should convene an emergency meeting to discuss recent findings about the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion last September.

Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1970, said in a post blog last Wednesday, citing unnamed sources, that US navy divers had destroyed the pipeline with explosives on orders from President Joe Biden.

The White House dismissed claims that the United States was behind the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, which delivered Russian gas to Germany, as “totally fabricated and utterly fictional”.

Sweden and Denmark, whose exclusive economic zones were the flashpoints, have concluded the pipes were blown up deliberately, but have not said who might have been responsible.

Previously, the US and NATO called the incident an “act of sabotage.” Meanwhile, the country led by President Vladimir Putin blamed the West for the explosion.

“There are more than enough facts here: a pipe explosion, a motive, circumstantial evidence obtained by journalists,” Zakharova said on the Telegram messaging platform. ReutersMonday (13/2/2023).

“So when will the emergency NATO summit meet to review the situation?”

On the other hand, NATO remained silent and did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.
