New York, Feb 12 (EFE).- Thousands of people gathered this Sunday in New York to close the Lunar New Year festivities with a grand parade through the popular New York neighborhood of Chinatown.
On a relatively mild day for a New York February, the streets of this area of southern Manhattan were filled to witness a colorful parade with special representation of Asian communities such as Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese.
According to the organizers, it was expected that some 20,000 people would parade in this celebration and that around 500,000 would attend as spectators.
The event marks the end of the festivities to welcome the Year of the Rabbit, which began on January 22 and have continued ever since.
New York is home to a huge Chinese community, estimated at more than half a million people, living mainly in three large Chinatowns in the boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan.
